 Important Information

From the Nurse!

The end of the year is quickly approaching!  if your student medications and/or supplies in the clinic, we need you to pick up these items prior to the end of school. Colorado Board of Health notes "Medications acquired by the school or abandoned by parents shall be disposed of in accordance with 6 CCR 1007-2, Part 1, Regulations Pertaining to Solid Waste Sites and Facilities and 6 CCR 1007-3, Parts 260-268, and Parts 99 and 100."  Also, you will need to transfer medications to ESY and Title One summer camps.  For students in ECS, the medications may be kept in the program/clinic as usual unless the program is relocating to an alternate site in which case staff adult-to-adult transfer is permitted; however, parent transfer of medication is preferred.

Looking ahead to next year:  New medication orders will be needed for the new school year (at the start of the new school year for all oral medications, inhalers, epi-pens, etc.).

Important Traffic Notice

Hello HMS parents, friends, & staff.

At Horizon Middle School we strive to be good neighbors in the community and hope we are leading that example.  Along these lines, you may not know that HMS has a crossing guard at the corner of Tower and Hampden, as well as at the light just northeast of the school, for the entrance to our lower parking lot.  Over the last four weeks, we have seen an increase in safety concerns in these areas.  There have been several instances in which drivers have stopped on the crosswalk, which poses a danger for our pedestrians and the crossing guard as they cross the street.

As it can be hard to see if you are over the crosswalk, your best bet is to stop well behind it.  Please understand that if your car is impeding the crosswalk in any way, it forces pedestrians to walk closer to oncoming traffic, which can be dangerous. Thank you for your understanding and support to keep our students safe!

Finally, if you are accessing our lower lot near the fire station we ask that you be mindful and not block their entryway. Our first responders are asking for your help and support in keeping these lanes clear of traffic at all times. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility with this very important issue.
