Principal's Weekly Message

April 11, 2025

Dear Horizon Community Middle School Families,

Thank you for supporting our students and community as we are engaged in the CMAS. We know that this assessment can cause stress, both at school and at home, and we know that our students need us to coach them through. We believe that we need to push our students to tackle hard challenges, and we know that by helping them persevere now they will continue to achieve in the future. We really appreciate your partnership. Testing for all grades continues through next week (full schedule here).

This past Saturday, HCMS students Michael Rodriguez, Cameron Silva, and Benjamin Alvarado proudly represented our school at the SeaPerch Regional Competition. SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program that challenges students to design, build, and navigate remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) through complex underwater courses. We’re excited to share that our team won first place at the Denver SeaPerch Regional Competition! Our team demonstrated excellent teamwork, problem-solving, and engineering skills throughout the event. We're so proud of their hard work and dedication – way to go, team!

Looking ahead, please join us on Tuesday night for a virtual meeting. On April 15th from 5:30-6:30pm, we will be sharing highlights from the year and instructional plans for next year. We have so many things to celebrate at HCMS (i.e. improved achievement and growth, reduced suspension), and we believe that our future academic directions will continue to support this trajectory. Topics of discussion will include reading and writing, professional learning communities (PLCs), and restorative practices. Please join using this Teams Meeting Link.

Thank you, and have a great weekend!

Brad
